Cello Instructors

We are looking for a dedicated artist-teacher who possesses a deep passion for music education and a proven track record of student success. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing students for the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) evaluations (up to All-State levels) and feel equally confident teaching young beginners, competitive high schoolers, and adult hobbyists.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality private cello instruction tailored to individual student needs, goals, and learning styles.

  • Successfully prepare students for NYSSMA evaluations (Levels 1–6 and All-State), youth orchestra auditions, and conservatory entrance preparation.

  • Teach students of all ages (children through adults) and varying skill levels (beginner to highly advanced).

  • Structure lessons to emphasize healthy technique, posture, tone production, intonation, and expressive musicianship.

  • Communicate constructively and professionally with parents regarding student progress and practice expectations.

  • Prepare students for conservatory recitals, festivals, and local competitions.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Master’s Degree or Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Cello Performance or Music Education preferred; equivalent exceptional professional performance pedigree considered.

  • Teaching Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of proven studio teaching experience with a track record of high NYSSMA scores and successful student outcomes.

  • Performance Experience: Extensive experience as an active solo, chamber, or orchestral performer.

  • Pedagogical Knowledge: Thorough, up-to-date familiarity with the NYSSMA cello syllabus, scale rules, and sight-reading requirements. Knowledge of established methods (e.g., Suzuki, Feuillard, Cossmann) is highly valued.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional patience, strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to inspire a lifelong love of music in students.

  • Logistics: Must have legal authorization to work in the US and reliable transportation to our Long Island campus locations.
